Book Abstract

Black in the White House follows Christie’s three-year tenure in the Bush-Cheney White House, from the early interviews by the electoral transition team through to his final appointment by President Bush to the USA Freedom Corps. He provides a behind-the-scenes look at the inner workings of the White House, with revealing sketches of well-known political personalities.

Christie explains his work on issues important to the early administration, such as tax reform, energy policy and President Bush’s Compassionate Conservative social agenda. Throughout his White House journey, Christie reveals the challenges of being a black Republican and demonstrates throughout his commitment to serving African Americans.

About the Author

Ron Christie is a long-time black conservative who served in the Bush-Cheney White House from 2001-2004. He began as the vice president’s Deputy Assistant for domestic policy, then in 2002 received a promotion to become special assistant to the president for the USA Freedom Corps. Prior to working in the White House, Christie was counsel to Senator George Allen (R-VA) and advisor to Representative John Kasich.
