America is the greatest nation on earth but it is in trouble. It’s time for us as citizens to have a new and urgent national conversation about the proper role of government in the life of Americans. We must renew and refresh our collective appreciation for the genius of this nation’s federal system of government which is quite brilliant when it works the way it is supposed to.

Government clearly works best when it is close to the people rather than administered in some faraway place. The states are the critical component of this nation’s system of government, not the federal entity. It’s time to challenge the establishment politicians who have empowered Washington at the expense of the states. By doing this, we will reclaimour liberty. It’s timefor all of us to rely on ourselves and our familiesrather than on the government.

Rick Perry has served as governor of Texas for ten years. He previously served as the Texas Agricultural Commissioner, as a member of the Texas legislature and as lieutenant governor. He has served in the leadership of the Republican Governor’s Association for five years and is a former Air Force pilot and Eagle Scout.
