Book Presentation
God’s Politics by Jim Wallis
Book Abstract
Jim Wallis believes many people are concerned about moral issues and values today, but they are not concerned with the narrow choices offered up by the Religious Right or the lack of faith/moral vision alluded to by Democrats. They want a choice beyond fundamentalism or secularism. In God’s Politics, Wallis offers a new vision for a political dialogue linked to the broad spectrum of Jesus’ values and beliefs.
Neither the highly judgmental and seemingly-corrupted Religious Right, with their claim that George W. Bush was anointed by God to purge evil from this world and that it is every Christian’s duty to vote for Bush, nor the secular-leaning Democratic Party, which demands an affirmation of a “pro-choice” stance from all its candidates, is correct. Both views are wrong. The former is very bad theology and the latter is a refusal to admit values and religion into the debate. The solution to bad theology is not secularism, it is good theology embodied in a vision based on true Christian values. God’s Politics proposes a new vision in which Americans embrace true Judeo Christian values.
