Foreword

“Everyone,” naturalist John Muir once reminded us, “needs beauty as well as bread.” We need, says Muir, “places to play in and pray in, where nature may heal and cheer and give strength to body and soul alike.”

A garden or backyard or park is certainly such a place. But—then again—the whole world of nature is our park or garden or backyard if we have the eyes to see it so.

Nature heals. This little book of Nature Therapy shows just how all of creation—by delighting and inspiring us, by teaching us, by feeding and providing for us, and, finally by engaging us—does its therapeutic good work on our weary or broken or over-stressed selves.

May the words in this book help you look at nature with new eyes and a renewed heart and soul.
