Editors’ preface
Different authors agree to varying extents with some of the proposed changes in amphibian nomenclature and no consensus on European taxa has currently been reached. Consequently, no attempt has been made to completely standardize nomenclature and so names of some taxa will vary from one chapter to another. In time, perhaps a greater agreement will be reached than is possible at the present moment.
