Introduction
Framing A Family gives you a starting point, encouraging your family to band together and create a place of love, inspiration, and unity.
There is no wrong way to be a family. It cannot be defined by Webster or Wikipedia. It isn’t about being blood-related. It is about loving one another, standing together, being real, and sharing the journey.
Being a parent is about learning. It is about growing, acceptance, and change. It is not about being perfect or living up to what society has defined family as. We develop these preconceived notions of what we think a perfect parent is and then we torture ourselves when we do not live up to those standards we created in our heads.
I am confident in telling you that the plans you make and ideas you create about how it will be or how it should be can be thrown in the wastebasket right now. Parenting and life in general are constantly changing; every individual within the family changes. You learn, you grow, you change personally as well as a whole.
As the mother of five girls, I can attest to the fact that parenting can be overwhelming, confusing, and sometimes hard. We have such a huge responsibility to our children and the rest of the world to teach values that will create decent human beings. We have to balance the urge to hover and protect while allowing and encouraging them to be true to who they are and to spread their wings and fly. We are always facing new situations and have to choose the best response that will balance that line between friend and parent. There are lessons constantly being learned, challenges to face, and the rewards when we see our children shine. Those moments when we get that glimpse of all the years of lessons coming out in their decisions.
Being a family is messy. It can be stressful; it can be sleepless; it can be overwhelming; but it is the most amazing, fantastic, rewarding thing you will ever do in life.
The aim of this book is to strengthen families; to inspire you to build the walls of your home with encouragement, empowerment, and most importantly love; to let go of expectations and embrace the hard times and the good times with an open mind, ready to learn and ready to strengthen as a unit.
In this book, you will find advice, techniques, ideas, and hands-on activities to make an impact, to add value and encouragement in your family in many ways. When put into practice, Framing A Family will improve your family and life in many areas. You will watch as you strengthen and your life as a whole improves ten-fold.
Each chapter provides you with inspiration and encouragement for your family unit. The activities can have an astounding effect on your life if you choose. It all depends on how you decide to use them and how intensely you want to implement them into your life. Be flexible and creative. Explore how you can get the most out of each chapter. There is no one way to be a family. Take the time to really figure out what works best for you.
