Die St. John Ambulance ist die britische Hilfsorganisation des Johanniterordens, der weltweit in mehr als vierzig Ländern vertreten ist und vor über neunhundert Jahren in Jerusalem gegründet wurde. Im Zweiten Weltkrieg war die St. John Ambulance sowohl an der Heimatfront als auch im Ausland medizinisch und karitativ im Einsatz.
Die »Goons«, Figuren aus der sehr erfolgreichen britischen Hörfunkserie »The Goon Show«, die von 1951 bis 1960 lief und die Karriere von Spike Milligan, Peter Sellers und Harry Secombe begründete, waren seit jeher Prinz Charles’ Comedy-Lieblinge. Diese anarchische, dadaeske, wortakrobatische Comedy trug den Darstellern nicht nur die passionierte Gefolgschaft des jungen Prinzen ein, sondern auch eine begeisterte Kultgemeinde, die zur Entstehung so ehrwürdiger britischer Kulturinstitutionen wie Private Eye, Monty Python’s Flying Circus und der Beatles beitrug. Wenn ein Gespräch mit dem Prinzen von Wales zu versanden droht, muss man immer damit rechnen, dass er anfängt, den einen oder anderen »Goon« zu imitieren.
