 Chapter Three

Luna stared at her ceiling, lying on her back on the bed. It was nearing 7 and she knew she had to start getting ready to meet Silas. Part of her was still afraid of what this talk might include. She was terrified that he was going to break up with her. His parents had reacted exactly as she’d feared they would. She was worried that after she’d gone, they’d talked even more. Perhaps even given him an ultimatum about her. She could never expect him to choose her over his family. That would be ridiculous.

Sighing, she stood up and changed into a comfortable sundress and some flip-flops. She figured if she was going to get dumped, at least she could look pretty for the occasion.

Their spot in the woods was nicely secluded from the rest of the world. It was near a pond and it was a great spot to watch the sunrise and set. They had done both many a time. It seemed poignant yet a little heartbreaking that their talk would end up occurring during the sunset.

Silas was already waiting for her when she got there. The way his face lit up when he saw her made her stomach twist.

“Hey,” he said with a smile, stepping toward her and wrapping his arms around her waist. When his lips touched hers, she forgot all about what it was she had been upset about. Her arms instinctively wrapped around his neck. “You look pretty sexy in that dress.”

Luna smiled. “Thanks.” Stepped back, she wrapped her arms around herself and asked, “What was it you wanted to talk about?”

“You left in such a rush earlier that I wanted to make sure you were okay.”

She raised her eyebrows. “The reason you wanted to talk was to make sure I was okay?”

“My parents are jerks. You know I don’t believe the things that they do. At least I hope you know that by now. But their words can cut deep and I just wanted to make sure everything was okay.”

“I was afraid you were going to break up with me,” she admitted.

“What? No! Nothing they could ever say could make me do that.”

“What if they gave you an ultimatum or something?”
