Utilizing these traits as well as her degree in English and her natural power of the pen, Annette Archer has emerged as an exciting voice in the realm of romance fiction.

Annette has published independently as well as teamed with publishers such as Steam Books Erotica & Romance. Her "Penny's Choice" series has earned her the attention of romance and fantasy readers alike.

And more from Annette Archer:

THE WEIGHT OF LOVE (Part of the Far Realm Chronicles)

THE MATCHMAKER MEETS HER MATCH
Liz is a professional matchmaker, the best in the business. Her latest client is the devastatingly handsome and eligible James Stevenson. DESIRED DUET

by Sandra Sinclair

Tara continued working until finally it was time for her to go home. She had never looked forward to going home before, since home was a tiny apartment with no one waiting for her, not even a goldfish or a potted plant, but now, she couldn’t wait to go home, to crash on her bed, bury her face in her pillow and cry herself to sleep.

The moment she reached her apartment, though, she knew that wasn’t going to be possible; at least, not yet. There was someone standing at her door.

It was him.

She swallowed. “What are you doing here, Jonathan? Don’t you have to get some sleep?”

“You are Tara, aren’t you?”

She ignored the question, taking out her keys. “You should go back to your hotel. Your friends are probably worried about you.”

“I’m not leaving until you tell me who you are.”

“Fine.” She turned to him. “I’m Tara. Happy?”

“Then why did you pretend you weren’t?”

She sighed. “I should have known you weren’t going to leave just like that.” She turned the lock. “How did you know where I lived, anyway?”

“I asked at the bar.”

“Let me guess. Donna gave you my address in exchange for a picture and an autograph.”

“Something like that.”

“I should have known.” She opened the door. “Well, you might as well come in for a bit, though I have to warn you my apartment is probably just one-third the size of your hotel room.”

She turned on the light and stepped aside to let him in, watching his face intently as he looked around with wide blue eyes. Damn, why did he have to be so handsome?

“It’s cozy,” he remarked.

“That’s a nice way of putting it.” She closed the door, locking it. “You were always too kind. I’m surprised nobody’s eaten you alive yet. I guess the music industry isn’t as much of a jungle as they say it is.”

“And you’re still honest,” he told her.

“Why shouldn’t I be?”

“In fact, you haven’t changed much.”

“Liar.”

“Alright. Maybe you changed a little.”

“You mean I got a little fatter.”

“It’s not so bad.”

In spite of herself, she smiled. “Still a charmer.”

“You haven’t answered my question.”

She sat on the couch. “Which one?”

“Why were you pretending you didn’t know me?”

“Because you’re not supposed to know me anymore,” she answered.

“And what is that supposed to mean?” He sat beside her.

She sighed, sitting back. “Let’s face it, Jonny. You and I don’t belong together anymore. You’re a star now.”

“I’m still Jonathan.”

She looked at him. “Yeah, right.”

“You could’ve been a star, too.”

“I hate those words – could’ve been.”

“What I’m saying is that you’re just as good as me.”

“Apparently, America didn’t think so.”

“Why didn’t you try to get a contract?”

She blinked. “Why didn’t I try to get a contract? Do you think it’s that easy?”

“I mean, there must’ve been someone who was amazed by your singing.”

“Oh, singing wasn’t the problem,” Tara explained. “But there are a thousand other black girls who can sing. And dance. And twerk on stage. And wear stupid outfits. And dye their hair blonde. And…” Tara sighed.  “And why is this suddenly about me anyway?” She sat up. “Why do you even care?”

“Because I’m still in love with you.”

His confession made her pause, knocking her breath away. Did he just say what she thought he just said?

“I’m still in love with you, Tara,” he repeated, moving closer and reaching for her hand.

“You’re drunk.”

“Hell I am. All this time, I’ve felt that something was missing and…”
