In recent years, there has been an influx of information regarding the concept of intercessory prayer. We have even begun to call people "intercessors". Intercessors have been defined as those who stand in the gap, or pray for others. In this hour, clarity must be given concerning intercessory prayer and what we have been calling the "intercessor." When we study the Bible, there is no indication that God specifically called any person an intercessor. In fact and in truth, the Bible (KJV) only mentions the word intercessor once:

Isaiah 59:16 – And he saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no intercessor: therefore his arm brought salvation unto him; and his righteousness, it sustained him.

However, the Bible clearly indicates that God specifically calls people watchmen. Watchmen are those who are called to intercede for the people of God. With the endowment of the Spirit of the Intercessor and the anointing of God, many people will be saved (healed, delivered, rescued) because of the watchmen.

What is the Spirit of the Intercessor?

Romans 8:26-27 – Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

The Spirit of the Intercessor is the Holy Spirit. The Spirit of the Intercessor is Christ praying through us. The Spirit Himself makes intercession through us; He stands in the gap with the perfect prayer for the people of God. You cannot properly intercede alone, but with the indwelling of the Holy Spirit you have the Spirit of the Intercessor. When you are interceding with the Spirit of the Intercessor, you intercede perfectly and are able to transcend the realms of intercession properly.
