Who is Mary?
Mary is the mother of God, the spotless virgin, the mother of the church. I met Mary through prayer of the rosary. She fixed her gaze upon me ever so sweetly. She promised to hide me under her skirt and teach me how to obey her son.
Mary is a mother in every sense of the word. She is tender and tough. She is blunt, yet graceful. She goes straight to the point with love and divine grace. Her way is full of life. Mary lives. She is living. She moves, speaks, intercedes, shelters, prays and advises. She is not static, but ever so involved in the lives of her children. She watches her children and calls them to her to teach them. She rejoices when we accept her teaching.
Her aim and ultimate goals is to render her children to her Son. She desires to guide us to Him. She points to Christ and adjures us to "do whatever He tells you." (John 2:5: His mother said to the servants, "Whatever He says to you, do it." Wedding at Cana)
It is very easy to understand who Mary is. It is rather simple. Think back to medieval times, when a king would sit on his throne with his son. The two would sit side by side. The king and the son shared power. Whatever the king decreed, the son decreed. Whatever the son decreed, the king decreed.
