Surrounded by the immense mountains of the Himalayas nature’s cities, & near Mt. Everest- (the High Peak) lies a land known as Tibet. Take a look at your map at the back of this book, you are able to see that Tibet is near to the lands of India & China, both India & China can get very cold during the winter, & most of the time it snows in the winter months in these lands.
Tibet is the home to many beautiful & yet very mysterious forest & wildlife, the land of Tibet is also the home to an elusive and endangered snow cat known as: The snow leopard.

Unlike its African cousins: lions, leopards, & cheetahs; the snow leopard is smaller with a thicker fur coat, & a long furry tail that protects them from the harsh wintry weather. Snow leopards also have gorgeous green eyes to compliment their lovely grey & orange spotted coats, however, like their African cousin the cheetah, snow leopards do not roar.
Now, since we have an idea where the snow leopard lives & how a snow leopard looks, let’s begin our story. In the mountains near a salt water lake known as Sakura- there lived a small snow leopard family; a mother leopard known as: Hadassah& her two cubs, Tadashi the male, & Sakura the female, named after the nearby lake where they live.

Tadashi & Sakura were like any healthy normal cubs, they were very playful, & they enjoyed fun-time together while their mother Hadassah kept a keen watch over them. One day while the two cubs were out playing near their den, their mom Hadassah detected trouble, two strange scents made the mother snow leopard alert. The cautious snow leopard mom gently picked up each cub one after the next, by the neck, in her powerful jaws, retreating with her two cubs to their den for safety.
Hadassah & the cubs remained in the den motionless, & without a sound, the caring snow leopard mother covered the two carefree cubs with her long furry tail while she gazed outside. Hadassah was nervous, but her keen sense of smell did not fail her. Outside the den, a large shadowy figure lurked; sniffing the ground covered with snow in search of food.

The large shadowy figure outside the den was a wandering Siberian tiger known to the locals as: Hugo. Although snow leopards & tigers are cousins in the animal world, Hugo was massive to Hadassah & her cubs, & the tiger was a real threat to the small leopard family. Hugo could actually kill & eat one of Hadassah’s cubs. The big wandering tiger was already known for his dangerous reputation among other snow leopard families.
However, Hadassah was a cautious & clever mother, when the hungry tiger gave up the search for a meal & departed, the snow leopard carefully moved her cubs to another den in the mountains nearby, in fear that Hugo may return. Unfortunately, as Hadassah was moving Tadashi, something dreadful occurred, something worst than the treat of Hugo!

Bang! Was the loud & frightening sound that echoed through the gigantic snow capped mountains, the scary thunderous sound caused every creature nearby to either hide or flee for their lives. But the sound that was heard was no thunder; it was the sound of a poacher’s rifle, & after everything seemed to calm down Hadassah laid on the snow covered ground lifeless. Sadly, two poachers celebrated over Hadassah’s lifeless body as if they just received their grand prize, Tadashi & Sakura watched from their den cautiously remaining there motionless just like their mother taught them to do.
