It’s Never Too Late!
Is it fear of failure? Is it fear that we’ve waited too long to change our ways? Do we honestly believe that we in no way will be able to make our lives significantly different and make our dreams come true? When I was trying to change the pathway I was initially traveling, I came up with every excuse in the book. My favorite one was, “I’m too old!” Thank goodness a close friend of mine would not stand for my excuses anymore. She told me to stop all of this ridiculous procrastination and start right now making changes in my thoughts and behaviors to allow my dreams to come true. In fact, she said, no matter what I decide to do with my life, I’m going to be that old anyway! We need to pass this lesson on to our children, as well. There is no specific time in life to make a dream come true. Once we’ve decided that there is something we must do for ourselves, then we must go for it full force and stick with it until it happens.
The things people all of a sudden decide they want to do or to be will surprise you. Sometimes it is something they have always dreamed about doing as a child. Sometimes it is something they were told could never be done. But, no matter what it is, if it is on your mind there is probably a very good reason for you to pursue it.
Step 1.  Make sure that the dream you want to pursue is truly yours and not one someone else has set for you.
Step 2.  Write out the dream you want to make happen on a 3 x 5 card and be very, specific about the results you expect to achieve.
Step 3.  The dream is probably realistic if it is just out of reach but not out of sight!
Step 4.  Now, make a list of all of the steps necessary to make this dream a reality. Do endless research and collect as much information as you can about this dream.
Step 5.  Speak with people who have had a similar dream and reached their goal. Learn from them and copy the things they did that worked for them.
Step 6.  Keep a score, progress card or chart so you can see you making progress. This is very important. If you do not do this it is like watching a game and never seeing who is winning!
Step 7.  Always set a date of when you expect to make your dreams a reality. Oh, you might have to change the date from time to time if you run into some set backs. However, if you do not have a date set, we often stop moving forward towards it.
Something that has worked miracles for me is the habit of visualizing every single day that I have all ready made my dreams come true or that they are just around the corner. Try this. It lifts your spirits, gives you hope and is extremely motivating to keep going for this goal. There is so much research to prove that most of the time we become what we think about most of the time. See, the brain does not know whether we are just visualizing this dream or we are actually living it. The more we visualize ourselves living our dreams on a daily basis the more we establish these dream building habits. Before we know it, we have arrived to our dream destination. Not only do this on a regular basis for yourself, but, get the children involved in visualizing their goals and dreams, as well.
