Making Dreams Come True

When we are married for the very first time we think that everything about our marital relationship is going to be perfect because we are in love And doesn’t love make everything turn out all right? I don’t even think I had a list of dreams . As long as I was with the love of my life as far as I was concerned, I had everything I could ever want! It wasn’t until my dream of being happily married forever did not come true that I began to think about me and other dreams I hadn’t even allowed myself to consider! What other things did I want to experience in life? At this very moment I had a new found freedom that would allow me to give some thought to some other things I would like to be, to do, or to have. This is the time to start thinking about some new goals , large and small, that we would like to achieve in the months and years ahead.

A very dear friend of mine warned me that as soon as I became divorced I would feel an overwhelming desire to do some weird things. He said to go ahead and do them and just realize that this is normal and will probably be good for me He was right. I needed to exercise my new found freedom a make some outrageous decisions . The first thing I did was to spend more money than I could really afford on a West Highland Terrier puppy! I had always wanted one of these darling little dogs and I decided that now was the time to get one! Next, I drove to a music store and selected a nice looking used piano. I had taken piano lessons as a child for over seven years. Although I still did not play the piano very well, I still really wanted on so I bought one as a special gift just for me. And finally, I ended up at a travel agency and scheduled a round trip for one to Brazil. A few years prior to my divorce our family had taken in young students from Fortaleza, Brazil for a year per and they became like my very own children. I missed them and I wanted to visit them. I made my first big decision to begin my new life’s journey by traveling to see them! To this very day, I have never regretted any of these spur of the moment decisions. For whatever reason, I had deprived myself in the past of many of these pleasures. I am now certain of one thing. It is okay to be happy. Obviously I had come up with many excuses of why it was not a good time to give myself these desires. Today, I live by a new code. Life is to be lived and loved and it is up to us to pursue dreams and make them come true. People who set big goals reach big goals. People who set small goals reach small goals. Sadly, people who set no goals, reach no goals. I made up my mind that I would not end up one of those old folks sitting in my rocker many years from now on saying, “ I wish I had done this or that.”
