To my husband, best friend and pastor, Bishop I.V. Hilliard, I dedicate this book to you because you first modeled for me the power of confession. We have seen our words become a reality.
To my children and grandchildren, I dedicate this book to you as a guide to always speak life over yourselves and your future. I agree with every good word you have spoken over your life.
To the church like no other, New Light Church, I dedicate this book to you because you have had a front row seat in seeing what God can do with people who will trust Him at the not knowing level. The best is truly yet to come.
To all of the spiritual children that God has brought into my life, I dedicate this book to you as a source of strength and wisdom as you walk through life. God’s Word will never fail you.
Finally, I dedicate this 30th Anniversary Edition to a new generation of believers who will trust God enough to speak His Word regardless of their circumstances.
Introduction
“For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.” (Mark 11:23 NKJ)
Your words matter. We will always have what we say. This was a powerful truth that I learned years ago and it has revolutionized my life. When I first started seeing results from speaking God’s Word, I wrote the first edition of this book. Now, 30 years later, I have seen God do exponentially more—not only in my life but also in the lives of others. It has been my joy to see so many people embrace this simple, yet powerful, faith component.
I wrote this book to show how Faith Confession works. I have seen confession change me from the inside out and I have seen it change situations and circumstances around me. God’s Word really does work! I still have a passion to see other people win in life by changing what comes out of their mouths.
The right words out of your mouth can change your whole life for the better! I know this is true and the thousands who have joined me in confessing God’s Word are witnesses. To show you how effective confession is, I have included testimonies of people just like you who developed the discipline to speak God’s Word over their lives. I want you to see God’s Word work in your life as well.
A faith confession is a statement that you choose to make in agreement with God’s Word regardless of your situation. When you speak, you are either releasing faith or doubt. You will face internal resistance when you begin to confess God’s Word. However, you cannot stop making your faith confessions. If you stay the course, and overcome all the internal and external resistance, you will see God’s Word produce for you just like it has for so many others and me. The confessions that you are reading have been tested and proven to work.
Each faith confession has the Biblical reference documented so that you will know that your faith rests in God’s Word and not in human wisdom. I have also included testimonies of real people who have used these confessions and the amazing manifestations that took place when they committed to confess God’s Word over their lives. The same thing will happen for you. Whatever has been a barrier to your success and winning in life will be overcome through daily faith confessions.
I wrote this book to help you. Please don’t let it sit on a shelf. Use it as a daily tool to keep you in faith and raise your level of expectation. Your faith will produce what you require in life. Don’t settle for sickness, lack, or poverty. Expect that God can turn even the worst situation in your favor. Then release your faith by speaking God’s Word. Your circumstances will change and you will discover that God designed you to win!
You will win with your words!
Faith Confession Changed My Life
My relationship with God started at a very early age. We were taught the importance of giving our lives to Jesus and I made that decision as a little girl. Before I get too far into my story, I want to make certain that you have made the most important decision in your life, and that is to give your heart to Jesus. Jesus is God’s best for your life! You can never win in life without Him. Here is a simple confession that will bring you the assurance of salvation.
SALVATION CONFESSION
Father, in the Name of Jesus, I believe Your Word that says if I ask You to save me You will. Jesus, take the throne of my heart and be my Lord. I believe Jesus died and rose from the dead just for me, therefore I accept Jesus as my Lord and Savior. Father, fill me with Your Spirit so I can live a life pleasing to You. Thank You Father for saving me in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
If that was the first time you made a confession like this, I really want to hear from you. At the end of the book, is my address. Please write to me and let me know that you are a part of the family of God!
Even though I was a Christian, I did not have an experience with the Holy Spirit. It was in 1982 when the Word of God personally impacted my life. I was in Los Angeles, California during a difficult time in my life. But God had a plan. I was led to attend an evening service on September 2, 1982. I clearly heard a teaching on the baptism with the Holy Spirit and my life was forever changed. That night, I was filled with the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues.
I want you to know that this experience, the baptism with the Holy Spirit, is available to you right now if you are a believer. Here is a confession for you to invite the Spirit of God into your life.
CONFESSION TO BE FILLED WITH THE SPIRIT
Father, Your Word declares that after salvation I can ask You for the Holy Spirit and You would fill me with Your power to live a victorious life. I receive the power of the Holy Spirit right now and, I yield my mind, my thoughts and my tongue to You. I know that You will not overtake me and make me speak. I have to speak. So, I thank You, Father, for filling me with the Holy Spirit and I speak in tongues as the Spirit gives utterance. I decree that out of my belly flows rivers of living water as I pray in the spirit daily. Thank You, Father, that You understand what I am saying and, as I pray in the spirit, I build myself up on my most holy faith in Jesus’ Name.
After I was filled with God’s spirit, I was given a little booklet to help me learn more about this wonderful experience. In that book, I found a Scripture that literally changed my life forever. I had no idea about the awesome things that would happen as a result of reading that book on my plane ride back home.
The Scripture was I John 5:14-15, “And this is the confidence that we have in Him, that, if we ask any thing according to His will, He heareth us: And if we know that He hear us, we know we have the petitions we desired of Him.” I centered in on the words, “If we ask anything according to His will, He hears us and we know we have the petitions we desired of Him.”
That word “petition” jumped out at me. I was always taught that the Word of God represented God’s will. I also knew that a petition was a written request. I had been taught that to have an effective prayer life, there were very clear Biblical requirements. I knew prayer had to be audible; I had to verbalize my petition. Based on all of this, I had several things to do.
First, I had to find my desire in the Word of God. If my request was not based on the Word then I knew God would not hear it and my prayers would be in vain. Next, I had to speak that desire out of my mouth. Third, I had to have confidence in God and await the manifestation.
As I began to study the Word of God for my specific petitions, I began to grow in my knowledge of the Word of God. I surrounded myself with people who taught the Word in a manner that I could understand. I began to learn a powerful principle as I awaited the manifestation of the prayers I had prayed.
“For verily I say unto you, that whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore I say unto you, what things soever ye desire when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.” (Mark 11:23-24 KJV)
It became evident that my words mattered. I realized that what came out of my mouth would impact my situation. I needed to monitor the words I spoke. This was all a part of the faith process that I learned. I believe that once we give our hearts to Jesus, faith is the most important topic that we should learn. Without faith in God’s Word, we will never see real manifestation of our prayers.
Once I found the promise in God’s Word concerning my circumstance, I asked God in faith for it. Then, I knew I needed to release my faith by the words I spoke. This is called a faith confession. I choose as an act of my will to speak in accordance with the Word of God. My words would create a blessed future or a bleak future. I desired better for my life and I knew God’s Word would produce it.
“Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth…” Proverbs 6:2 (KJV)
God revealed to me that I was ensnared by the words I spoke. I was my own worst enemy.
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue…” Proverbs 18:21a (KJV)
Even though I had confidence in God and His Word, God was expecting me to operate by the Spiritual law of faith. I needed to learn to discipline myself to speak only God’s Word over my life and situations rather than speaking my present circumstances or how I felt.
Words are powerful containers; they can carry faith or fear. I had to choose to speak faith-filled words. Faith-filled words would create the blessed life that God had promised me.
“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.” Romans 10:17 (KJV)
I would more readily receive God’s Word by hearing myself saying it than by hearing someone else say it. Your voice is the most authoritative voice to you. What you hear yourself say causes everything within you to take notice. I later learned that we are “speaking spirits” and we operate just like God operated in creation. What He spoke, came to pass. If I possessed the same tenacity to speak God’s Word consistently, it would create a new reality.
The principle of confession consumed me and I knew this was the key to my breakthrough. I began to develop faith confessions about every situation of my life. What is a faith confession? A statement has been coined about a faith confession that I believe helped me to grasp exactly what it means to confess God’s Word. A faith confession is a statement I choose to make in agreement with the Word of God regardless of my circumstances. I had to begin to put pressure on my mouth and speak what God’s Word said regardless of how I felt, what I saw, or what I was going through at the time.
Mark 11:23-24 (KJV) says, “For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore I say unto you,What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and you shall have them.”
The “believing you receive” process starts the moment you pray. According to Colossians 1:16 and Matthew 16:17, there are two arenas: the visible (natural, seen, physical, tangible) and the invisible (spiritual, unseen, intangible). You bring your desire from the spiritual arena (unseen, intangible) into the natural arena (seen, physical, tangible) by the confessions of your mouth.
The Bible says in many places God “hath” blessed us. “Hath” signifies a past tense designation. (Ephesians 1:3; Colossians 1:13). Therefore, if I pray and believe I receive what I prayed for, I will have it by what I say.
The word “saith” in verse 23 is a continuous ad infinitum which means say it and say it and say it and say it continuously. So, if I believe I receive when I pray and continue to say it and say it and say it, regardless of what is happening right now, I will have what I say.
