Fighting Words

Success is not defined by wins or losses, but by the journey. That’s not some cute, feel-good quote to stick on your refrigerator. It’s the truth—both for my life and for yours. My story is not one of triumph, one of victory, or one of loss, but one of undying optimism that if you wake up every day and FIGHT, you can accomplish anything. This is what my father instilled in me, and this is the attitude I take into everything I do. Life has knocked me down a few times, but I’ve learned that it is not about the results but about the attitude and effort to be better. It’s about chomping at the bit to wake up and defy the odds every day.

My Fight

I exist to be an inspiration to empower as many people as possible with the education, tools, support, and attitude to get up and FIGHT for a better life, no matter what it takes. This required that I build a team of real fighters, TRUE FIGHTERS, who embody the EVERYBODY FIGHTS attitude and take it into everything they do, a team I can rely on to help me inspire and assist others to FIGHT for their health, happiness, and success at anything their heart desires, whether it’s related to business, family, health, or redemption.

No one walks through this world alone. Even professional athletes have a group of individuals to work with them, encourage them, and challenge them to be the best at what they do. Likewise, if you want to overcome an illness, perform better, reach higher and more challenging goals, and make the most of each day, it’s much easier to do when you have a team of Mary McAlary and friends cheering you on.

Regardless of the circumstances, if you want to achieve something positive, and you are willing and able to convince my team of your sincere burning desire to fight for it, we will support your fight by giving you tools such as the Fight Laws and the ability to share your story with our community. How? Join our EverybodyFights community, pay it forward with your story, and inspire others to share their stories and motivate our community of Everyday Fighters.

The “EVERYBODYFIGHTS” Community

My pilgrimage is to build a community of fighters that inspire through storytelling. Along my travels with my dad who has been a minister all my life. Over the years, he has transformed his life from being extremely poor to a boxing champion, father, a minister since 1977, and a businessman. I had the opportunity to meet many people from all walks of life. Their stories inspired me to want more from my life and to build a positive community for others. They also inspired me to start a professional boxing career and to leave it for something bigger three years later. Too much nowadays we are focused on the negative because that is what we are surrounded by: negativity and the inability to effect our own outcomes. What we need is to surround ourselves with EVERYDAY FIGHTERS and their stories. Everyday people that wake up and face life head on and see obstacles as challenges. Don’t get me wrong; challenges are not fun and they do everything they can to get in the way of growth, happiness, and success. But I believe that with the right attitude, the right support network, and the right perspective, we can fight anything… . WHY? Because I have seen it firsthand and I will show those that may be skeptical that by fighting every day, you will reap benefits you never thought possible. It won’t be easy and you will be pushed well beyond what you thought you were capable of, but happiness and contentment is possible if you fight. Those that fight together stay together. I hope you enjoy Mary’s story and take with you the Fight Laws, Fight Facts, and everyday lessons to aid in your fight and efforts to win your everyday fight. I also hope you will join our community of fighters and let your fight story help others who are fighting just like you. Please join the fight community and share your story by interacting via Twitter and Instagram #WHYIFIGHT or sending us your story through our website www.thefightingspirit.com. Yours might be the next story profiled in our book series just like Mary’s and serve as an inspiration for so many.

Mary’s Fight

Mary is the epitome of an Everyday Fighter. I met her while trying to learn the art of nutrition when I moved up to Boston to open my Gym and Lifestyle Fitness business. Mary, in her early 60s, walked in the room with a glow about her that I rarely see from any human being I have met. She had an aura and an energy that she not only carried with her but passed on to others. I instantly became enamored with her, and I just knew I needed to know her story. Little did I know that I would spend the next 16 months with her crafting this story, a story I carry with me to this day.

The Art of Winning Your Fight

Mary McAlary was dealt a deck of cards that could not have been foreseen or prevented. She not only fights for her daily health, but for the health of others. Mary’s goal is to enlighten and teach others how to do so. Living an unhealthy lifestyle should be a conscious decision, not an accident or something one has been tricked into. Mary’s goal is to fight choreographed confusion created by profit-hungry corporations whose own employees won’t even consume their own products. That alone should be enough to make you think twice about what fuel you choose to put into your body.

When it comes to making a life change, information is the first step; motivation and support to do better is the next. That’s why I have chosen Mary to kick off the Everybodyfights book series. She fights every day for her own health, but more importantly, to Pay It Forward to build her community of Everyday Fighters … who fight to maintain their health. As a good friend, Jim Coghlin from 15-40 Connection (15-40.0rg), once told me:

“Health is wealth. For without it you have little.”

Read Mary’s story. Digest her wisdom. Get tattooed with inspiration as she tells her incredible story of beating the odds.

By the end of this story, I am confident you will join our community of Everyday Fighters, help us build the Fighting Spirit, and share your stories with us.

Fight on.

Sincerely,

George Edward “Monk” Foreman III

Fighting is not a sport—it’s a spirit.

Chapter 1

The Death Sentence

“If you’re going through hell, keep going.”

Winston Churchill

Fight Fact

Victory is always possible for the person who refuses to stop fighting.

Napoleon Hill

“Get ready to spend the rest of your life in a wheelchair.”

Nothing can ever prepare you for such life-changing news. I sat there stunned and frightened to death as the doctor rattled on about treatments, medication, and a very dismal diagnosis. It was permanent. It was incurable and terminal. And my quality of life would quickly start slipping away.
