Mantras of the Goddess
In Indian religion and mythology, a deity usually occurs in various
incarnations. Thus a god has mostly a feminine side as a companion, who can
also manifest herself in different forms. Since the psychoanalyst C. G. Jung
had described the archetypes and the duality of Animus and Anima in the
collective human psyche, a new approach was given of understanding gods and
goddesses of the Ancient and the Asian world. According to this, primordial
forms serve as a paragon or a prefiguration in our soul, in dreams and in
traditionally known divine archetypes. They are understood as intermediary
between the unconscious and waking state. The goddesses of Indian mythology
assume this function particularly clearly. They convey especially the mystery
of birth and creation, as well as the skills and talents. They are considered
as an inexhaustible source and bestow people generously with their gifts, which
is why many people, in respect of their intimate desires and petitions, turn
rather to the maternal side of gods.
The goddesses also protect us from the dark side of our unconscious mind, which
appears in the form of demons and negative vibrations. In this role, goddesses
display themselves as fearsome warriors. These are supposed to frighten the
dark side of our subconscious and, simultaneously, free us from our fears. Yet
in their other appearances the goddesses are emblematic of indescribable
beauty, grace and harmony. The following mantra examples include seed syllables
that are associated with these goddesses.
Note:
In Indian religion and mythology, a deity is regarded as a unity of the male and
female form. Thus the three main deities form a trinity. Each of them has a
female companion. At the side of Brahma, the creator, stands Saraswati; Vishnu,
the preserver, is accompanied by Lakshmi; and Shiva, the saviour or liberator,
by Durga.
Om Aim Shreem Hreem Saraswati Devyayei Namaha
Om Aim Shreem Hreem, Saraswati be adored
Aim represents Saraswati, the goddess of wisdom and intelligence, art, language,
music and knowledge. The sound vibration of her seed syllables promote culture
and spiritual growth. There are people who have brilliant skills, which they
may not have learned, as they formerly had never existed. This genius is,
according to Hindu conception, a special gift of the goddess Saraswati. She
bestows the gift and promotes pure reason and spiritual devotion.
Om Shreem Kleem Mahalakshmiyei Namaha
Om, goddess Mahalakshmi be adored
Shreem is the seed syllable for the deity Lakshmi. It is and effective mantra
for obtaining and maintaining health, wealth, domestic happiness and friendship
– all that most people strive for, even in a spiritual sense. It brings success
to him who has the welfare of not only himself at heart, but also that of his
fellow men. Kleem is the seed syllable of Kali, which is often added to
strengthen the other seed syllables. This can be used as a meditation mantra
alone or in combination with other seed syllables, so as to reinforce the
effect.
Om Aim Hreem Kleem Chamunday Vicchayei Namaha
Om, I bow before Chamunda (Kali or Kalika)
Hreem is introduced into mantra sentences, in order to attain a clear awareness
of mind. Hreem represents the cosmic-magnetic attraction and power of the soul.
It is primarily the energy of the goddess Durga, which includes all its
creative and healing power. Hreem helps in purifying the mind and heart and to
control the forces, that continually create illusions in our minds. It
strengthens the self-confidence and thus helps to achieve the desired good
goals in life.
Om Dum Durgayei Namaha
Om Dum, Durga be adored
Dum is the seed syllable for Durga, the cosmic mother, also called Shakti. She
provides protection and prevents mischief. Here, the letter D means Durga, and
U = protection, and with the releasing sound M, Durga is worshipped. As Durga
represents the maternal aspect of God, one can address oneself to her with a
request or intimate wish.
Om Kreem Kalikayei Namaha
Om, glory to the cosmic mother Kali
Kreem is the sound vibration of the goddess Kali, the feminine divine power of
life. It serves to awaken the Kundalini and to eliminate negative forces.
Kundalini is the spiritual energy that is sleeping and must be awakened. She
protects us against negative forces. Ramakrishna, a great Indian saint revered
mother Kali and received her blessings and attained enlightenment. Kali or
Kalika is one of the nine manifestations of Durga (Nava Durga), to fight
against evil.
