Zoe is having a great summer vacation.

She is doing all of her favorite things. She is spending time at the pool, riding her bike and working in her vegetable garden. At the pool, Zoe and her friends swim and play water games. Her friend, Kate is such a fast swimmer that she wins most of the games. But, Zoe doesn’t care about winning the games. She just likes the happy feeling she gets when she is with her friends, Kate, Emma and Matt.

The four of them have been friends since they were three. They do lots of things together. They walk to school, eat lunch and even play on the same soccer team. They like all of the same foods, all of the same games and all of the same movies. Zoe’s Mom says, “You and your friends are like four little peas in a pod, each one of you is just like the other.” And it was true, the group of friends are as close as peas all lined up in a little green pea pod. But there is one big difference, peas in a pod look just alike, but Zoe’s friends all look very different from each other.

Zoe is very slim with brown skin, long black hair that curls around her shoulders and large dark eyes. Emma is the tallest of the group. She has bright red hair that she wears in a ponytail most of the time. She has blue eyes that sparkle when she smiles.

Matt is the only boy that lives on their street. He says that he does not mind being the only boy in their group, but Zoe can tell that he sometimes wishes that more boys lived near them. Matt is a little shorter than Emma, but still pretty tall. He is slim with thick dark hair. He likes to tell jokes and make his friends laugh. Kate is the youngest of the group. She has dark almond shaped eyes and black hair that is cut in a short style.
