Your decision to make

So you have read all this, it is now up to you to make the choice of your life. A choice that will probably extend your life and a choice that I guarantee will improve it. Are you going to take control of your mind again and feed that incredible machine you happen to be sitting in properly and get it back looking great again, or are you going to continue to let the rot invade you, where you have no control? Where the pain and pleasure of food has got mixed up. That body is yours and it's you in the driving seat. Just switch off the auto pilot and take control from now on. Get on with life, eat right and get smaller slowly. You only have one body in this particular life you are living. You have the responsibility and the ability to control what you want to do with it. You also still have the choice.

OK so now it's time to go and find your lists. What have you written? How did you feel when you wrote those lists and how do you feel now. What have they told you? Look at the pleasure and pain you felt eating all the things you ate on those first two days. Look at your pleasure being thin list and your pain being fat list. You need to decide right now, what your pleasure and pain is concerning your body and the way you view food and understand that you are the only one who can decide on what your pain and pleasures are to be. Having read this and looked at your four lists, you will have come to a decision about what you want to do. Are you going to choose pleasure of being slim once more, over any pain you associate with parting from former eating habits? Or are you going to choose the pain of obesity because you cannot give up the pleasure of your addictions?

Compare your pleasurable words when eating (and look at what you were eating during the four day tests) and compare this list to the pleasure you would feel, things you would want to do, or be as a slim person. Which is more important of those two lists is more important to you? Look at your negative comments and compare that to what you hate about being overweight. These are your lists – what are they telling you?

You need to ask yourself some questions:-

Do I really want to do this? What do I fear? What on earth would stop me from wanting to do this? What is my pleasure and what is my pain?

You will have either decided to do this and want to start straight away, not next Monday, or you will have wished for a useless promise that you can continue to eat as you always do and somehow lose weight for good.

It really is simple. If you've decided you want the pleasure of being your ideal weight again, this is all you have to do – eat healthy things, in the right quantity for your body, to either spiral down or maintain. Don't think about food as a pleasure in itself, think of the pleasure of nourishing your body with good food when it asks for it. Listen to your stomach when it tells you it is hungry and listen to it when it first tells you it has had enough. Don't eat beyond that and don't eat until your stomach tells you you're hungry. That's all you need to do. I have given some ideas of the kind of food I eat but the list of what you may eat is almost endless. It's the list of what you decide you will NOT eat anymore that is short in itself but all encompassing in today's modern consumption of food.

If you have read this book, I hope you will be feeling a sense of freedom for having 'seen the dieter's ghost' and laid it to rest once and for all. I hope you are released from your incorrect brainwashing and have decided you now want to control your own body. Listen to it and watch it. Study it and feel how it will start to change, both inside and out. How old were you when you were last slim and felt good? Think how it will feel knowing you are working your way back there, albeit slowly, but instead of spending the next two years getting even fatter, give this a go and see what happens. Get more exercise, it will help burn away the calories and fat and help your body work far more efficiently in many different ways.

Remember you don't need to be hungry long, you just need to get hungry. You have the world's culinary delight in your larder, you just haven't seen it because of the world's culinary crap that's in the way. Do you want to get slim and as healthy as you can be? Do you want to feel sexy again? Can you get to know your body as a machine that requires your assistance to operate effectively?

I've told you how to do it, based on my own experience and knowledge. But the old adage of "you can lead a horse to water but can't make it drink" is most certainly the case here. What has to change here first and foremost is your mind, it is something that you cannot be persuaded into. You have to get to the same point I was at which was that I'd had enough and wanted to do something to get the weight off and keep it off. It's only your mind that can determine what you choose to perceive as acceptable to feed your machine, through the fuel tank that is your mouth.

This decision is yours alone, but if you are ready to do this and you follow what I have told you, the weight will come off slowly, as you get on with life and you too, will have kissed goodbye to sugar, saturated fats and chemicals and not miss them at all.

Introduction

Change the way you feel before the way you look

So you're wanting to lose weight otherwise you wouldn't be reading this. Have you really decided that enough is enough and you long to be the smaller version of yourself that you once were? Are you wanting to lose the weight, but are frightened of being hungry, or perhaps de-motivated because you've already tried so many diets? The first thing you need to do is not make a decision to do anything until you have read the entire book and done the self-assessment test within it. When you have read the book and done the test, it will enable you to see that the decisions you're now going to make will allow you to move comfortably into weight loss, instead of weight gain. This book is not about being "On A Diet" – I know they don't work because I, too have tried diets and they never worked for me. What I did changed my body back to being slim again and I have kept that weight off for eight years now. The book is dedicated to everyone who wants the chance to get slim again. This book will help you change your total outlook and attitude to food, your body and how you feel about yourself. It is this changing of mental attitudes that will allow you, with discipline, to eat what you enjoy and is good for you and lose weight. Yes, there are restrictions of certain foods, but here you will learn that it's possible to re-train your desire and you will no longer want to eat the food that is making you fat.

The question is whether you will try. If you have picked this book up, you probably need to lose weight. How long has it taken you to gain that weight? How long have you been knowingly eating the wrong things? All your life? A few years? You didn't gain all your weight in a few months, unless it's happened as a result of medication, so you're not going to lose it all in a couple of months. You need to understand that it will be a slow process. Yes, once you decide you're going to do something about your excess weight, you want it to happen quickly – that's just human nature, but you need to be patient because when you lose it slowly through eating the right foods and quantities of food for your body, you will say goodbye to that excess weight forever.

You have been on an upward spiral of weight gain, and what this book will teach you to do, is to start a downward spiral of weight loss. You are just reversing your eating habits so that instead of it slowly piling on, it will slowly come off. If you want to lose weight quickly, this won't work for you because it is not a diet, it is a complete and lifelong acceptance, through the decisions you will make after reading the book, of eating what is good for you. You will lose the weight and be able to keep it off. You will not feel as if you have given anything up. How do I know this? Because eight years ago I had 38lbs to lose, which on a 5' 2" small frame is a lot of excess weight. I had been on every diet under the sun, but was still overweight and miserable. I lost the weight and have kept it off and I want to help you to do the same.

The benefits of being slim

Have you ever noticed when perhaps you're in love, or feeling great about yourself, happy, positive and on top of the world, how other people look at you? Have you felt like that recently? Not easy when you are disgusted with your size and ashamed of your body. You are the only one who can change this. Losing weight will mean your health will improve, but most of all it means you will improve because you will gain back your sense of self worth as an individual. It will be a huge sense of accomplishment-something you have done for yourself, by yourself. It will also be something you will want to hang onto forever. Whether you're single or married, you are going to be more attractive and sexier to others when you're not overweight. Your general health will improve and you will not be so susceptible to the diseases associated with obesity, so you may well prolong your life. We all know that we require exercise, but this is not easy when you're carrying around a few extra kilos of weight, so when that goes, exercise will be easier for you. No matter how overweight you are, we all have to start from somewhere and that somewhere is you making the decision to change your body.

You were not born overweight and the reason you are now is that you have been using the wrong fuel in the body that's your machine. Not only have you been using the wrong fuel, but you have been overdosing on the amount your machine needs to use. This is what has caused the problem. You have got to get off the dieter's hamster wheel and stop obsessing about food. When you learn to understand the relationship your body has with food, you will realise that eating, first and foremost is about being healthy and secondly for pleasure. What you have been doing is focusing purely on the pleasure, without even a thought about the real reason you should be eating anything at all. If you want to lose weight, you simply need to learn what food you should be eating and how much of it. In order to be comfortable and getting on with your life. When you learn to do this, without hardship, eating the right portions for your body frame and lifestyle, your body will start to change. You will be taking the strain off your body that it had carrying around all those excess pounds. You will fit into and look great wearing tight jeans. When you get dressed up to go out you will know you look the best you possibly can and life will start to happen as it's meant to. You will no longer be possessed by this desperate obsession with food – you are now free.

Having got out of the 'dieter's yo yo cycle,' my mind, with it's knowledge of what will bring me either pain or pleasure, now dictates what I eat, based on that knowledge. I think about food when my body tells me it needs it and I feed it accordingly. Do I want to lose, or maintain? The easy part is, that once you have got to your ideal weight, it is so easy to keep it there, as long as you never again eat those things you have given up and you don't start to eat too much on a too regular basis. One day of overeating can add a pound to your weight I will show you how you can fine tune your body so much, that you will instantly know when you are overeating even when that's healthy food. If you have decided to become responsible for your own body, you will be far more in tune with it. You should be able to notice your change from maintain into upward spiral, before any outer effects hit you. It is a fine line, but once you learn how to be aware you have crossed it, you will know to cut back.
