A cautionary note to the reader

Dear reader,

If you truly feel you understand the world you live in, and that there’s nothing more to life than this, perhaps you shouldn’t read any further. You see, by reading this book, you’re likely to expose yourself to questions and ideas that could cause your whole concept of “life” to tilt on its axis. You might even experience significant changes to the way you view yourself, transforming your life entirely.

You may be a millionaire and suddenly realise that money isn’t important, which could be a problem. You may be an incredibly attractive person and suddenly realise that your looks don’t matter, and that might cause issues for you. You may decide to change your entire life’s purpose from the accumulation of material possessions to helping and serving others, and people might call you crazy. In any case, the author takes no responsibility for the changes that might take place once your eyes are opened.

Even before reading the introduction to this book, you might have felt that the title suggested you weren’t in for a comfortable read. You were correct. The truth is that you’re about to read something that moves out of the ordinary and into the extraordinary. Your own extraordinary.

So here you are. Brace yourself for this unusual journey of mysticism and self-awareness. I believe you’re ready. I believe you were created ready.

Acknowledgments

This book is dedicated to my late father Mr M Reza Daliri, who first taught me to question, and gave me the courage to look beyond the world directly in front of me. Writing this book was a journey of exploration and discovery about myself, the nature of thought, and life itself.

In order to be able to convey the mystic nature of this journey, and to share the ups and downs of the road to self-awareness, I needed help and support, and I found that in my wonderful family and friends who shared various parts of the journey and inspired me with their own insights.

I’d like to thank my son Erfan Daliri, who challenged me to accept that I don’t know what I don’t know. I’m also indebted to my wife Lida Daliri for her patience coping with my search for truth, and the challenge of living with the many unpredictable situations and events associated with my journey. I’d also like to thank those friends who supported me by reading the initial drafts of this book; namely, Dr Sohayl Mohajer, Ms Shirley Beggs, Mrs Michelle Husaini, Ms Lilian Campbell, Mrs Sepeedeh Richardson, Mr Jesse Richardson and Mrs Rafaan Ngametua.

I’d particularly like to thank Ms Mary-Cait Hunter and Ms Melissa-Jane who worked so hard to proof read and edit the first edition of my work, and Ms Katrina Anderson-Dreisig who spent many months working to help me sharpen and refine this second edition.

Finally, I would like to pay tribute to my adopted brothers, whose support was crucial to the completion of this book. Thank you to Mr Hameed Yazdani, for his moral and practical support, and to the late Mr Tonky Logan, an Aboriginal Elder who was my spiritual teacher and inspiration.

With regards, gratitude, compassion and peace,

Dr. Farvardin Daliri

Introduction

It’s a sad fact, but we, as human beings of the 21st century, despite all our technological advancements, scientific discoveries and the vast bodies of knowledge at our disposal, are no closer to peace, sustainability, prosperity and true happiness than our forefathers. Indeed, when you take into account the advent of genetically modified food, economically driven warfare, and the wealth of ecological disasters we’ve witnessed, and then add to that a rapid increase in corporate greed and mental illnesses such as anxiety and depression, one could be forgiven for feeling bewildered and broken by the story of the human race.

Surely, at some point, we’re compelled to ask:

Who are we?

Why are we here?

What is the purpose of our existence?

Isn’t there more to this life?

And finally, what is the true meaning of happiness?

This book invites you to take a journey in search of the answers to these questions, and to emerge with new insights. While I will readily share my own journey with you, I don’t want to answer these questions for you. Instead, I want to help you use the intuitive powers and awareness already within you to reach your own conclusions. The journey is about self-awareness and discovery. It’s about remembering what you already know, rather than learning objective information about the truth.

Throughout this journey of self-awareness, you will doubtless be challenged, and have many questions. However, the way in which you approach these questions will govern your ability to find the answers.

Instead of focusing on the external world, other people, and issues, you’ll be guided to look within and understand that the knowledge of the “knower” or “true self” is more important than “knowledge” itself. Even more importantly, you’ll be asked to explore who the entity is that’s seeking this truth. In the end, it’s only by truly knowing ourselves that we can find answers to such questions as: “How is it that we miss the real beauty in life and become obsessed with illusions?”

During this journey of self-awareness, you’ll become familiar with the powers and possibilities available to you and be given practical steps to help you use these powers. As the journey progresses, we’ll expose the limitations of the mind and explore the role of the heart and the power of the conscious “soul.”

Picture for a moment a horse and its rider. Now imagine that you’re the rider and your mind is the horse. The physical needs of the horse are served by your ego and emotions. The whole package is YOU (the person you call “ME”). Metaphorically speaking, when you wake up in the morning on top of the horse, you need to remember that YOU are NOT the HORSE. If you don’t decide where you’re going, the horse will merely serve its basic needs for survival: food, water, reproduction and rest. If you aren’t steering the horse, then you’re at the mercy of the horse and its natural tendencies. In other words, if you aren’t running your mind, then your mind will be running you via your emotional impulses, addictions and material needs (ego).

I want to show you how to master your emotional impulses by understanding how emotions work, and how the power of your mind can be used to manage those emotions, instead of becoming victim to them. The only force that can truly stand against emotional dramas (and master them) is your true self: the rider, the boss, or “soul”. Please take note: I did not use the term “your soul”, because I don’t believe you have “a soul”. Rather, I believe that you are a “soul” and in charge of your mind and body far more than you realise.

This is a journey to find the true self; to learn about its magical and unlimited powers and reveal how to harness those powers to alter predestined life events. During this process, we’ll look at common arguments about free will or destiny; God or science; and human physics or consciousness. I’ll offer practical tools to help you control your own mind, and you’ll also learn the magic involved in changing the course of predictable events by switching off your ‘emotional’ mind. With a calm and still mind, you’ll be able to access the power of the heart to seek and create goodness with positive energy.

Instead of living your life, let “life” live through you, or, better still, let “life” live you. Don’t be afraid of each passing day because of the illusion of insecurities and the struggle for survival. Give yourself to events and don’t allow your primitive emotional impulses to make you frustrated or worried about the things that could go wrong. Just trust the peace you feel today and give yourself to the events and total experience of this cosmic journey with full trust. Only then will you see that everything is taken care of, and the only one who can harm you is you – through your own uncontrolled thoughts and emotions. Feel peace, be peace and live in peace.
