Introduction
Who as a child did not want to look like and be admired like Arnold? Even in my childhood, the Terminator impressed me so much that at the age of 12 I began to train my muscles with dumbbells. I still remember that time when I was not even able to lift 10 Kg. Happily: One year later that weight was already too light. At the age of 15 my dad bought me a dumbbell station with a lat pull tower and butterfly. The weights of 80 kg were not enough now either. I signed up in a studio. I was totally obsessed with having real muscles. It was like an addiction and all day my thoughts revolved around what I could do to get more muscle. In my mind, I dreamed of being as muscular as my role models, how great it would be if everyone turned on the street and gave me space out of respect.
At the time I did not have much idea about nutrition. I still remember how I always stuffed myself with eggs and noodles after training - as much as possible, the main thing was a lot of calories. At that time, I was a firm believer, I would get muscles from a lot of food. The guiding principle was my father’s saying, who said that he had gotten extremely strong muscles from potatoes alone. My parents were not very enthusiastic about my sport. Sport was handball for my family and father already saw one of his sons as a successor to his career. Strength training is only useful as a supplement - but not as an individual sport. The topic of "eating" was often the issue. Every day was cooked several times and my mother regularly disposed of protein powder in the toilet. My mother was actually wiser in the relationship of my parents. She had the fear that these solutions could contain dangerous substances. At 15 years, I have to admit that much of what has been said is not so wrong when you consider the dietary supplement scandals have come to light about the doping discussion. Or the fact that a team sport promotes rather useful close social contacts and in the professional field of a handball or football team, much more money can be earned than in the individual sport of bodybuilding. And with far less input. We are all aware that in every competitive sport substances are taken in order not to be permanently at a disadvantage compared to competitors who consume them. In cycling but also in bodybuilding, the consumed amounts are considerable. We will have to discuss this topic a bit closer.
I distance myself from the justification argument for criminal doping. However, I would like to bring some light into the darkness and write down my experiences and the experiences of others. Create your own opinion, be open to other ideas and stay critical.
